The Williamson County Sheriff's Office has three Deputies who are certified by the State of Illinois as Crash Reconstruction Specialists.  These Reconstruction Specialists, or Accident Reconstruction Officers (ARO's) investigate traffic crashes that cause serious injury or death.

Two of our ARO's are also certified by the State of Illinois in Road Safety Analysis.  This allows them to identify areas of roadway that have been particularly hazardous, and to work with the Illinois Department of Transportation, the National Highway and Transportation and Safety Administration, and the county Highway Engineer to determine what steps to take to make that area less dangerous for drivers.  Possible solutions include increased signage to alert motorists of risks, clearing trees and vegetation to allow more line-of-sight distance at intersections, or even changing the roadway to shave the height of hill crests and increase the radius of curves.
